Make Wars History is an association of peace activists working to end war. Horrified at the casual way in which the US and UK Governments violated international law by waging war on Iraq and Afghanistan killing thousands of innocent people, peace activists set up an international civil obedience campaign to force Coalition Governments and leaders to obey the laws of war.

Politicians who start wars break the law and breach their oaths of office.  To be effective the laws of war require politicians to obey them, police to enforce them, the public to uphold them and offenders to answer to them in court.

We will stop governments from waging war by ensuring that police arrest leaders who start wars, courts try politicians for complicity in war, taxpayers withhold taxes that pay for war, armed forces refuse to fight illegal war, businesses refuse to supply weapons of war, journalists tell the truth about war, the public learns the laws of war and Parliaments legislate to prohibit all war.

You can help by joining the world’s first civil obedience campaign pursuing the path of peace, justice and the rule of law.

Aims

1. To build a worldwide alliance of individuals, groups, communities and states committed to working together taking ‘smart non-violent direct action’ to bring a permanent end to war.

2. To report the leaders responsible for waging war [Iraq and Afghanistan] to national and international law enforcement authorities ensuring that they are investigated arrested, tried, convicted and punished for their crimes and violations of war law.

3. To lobby regional, national and international politicians, informing them of the laws of war, obliging them to take the ‘politicians pledge’ compelling them to hold Governments to account for their actions and legislate to make war impossible.

4. Identify the underlying systemic and structural causes of both war and peace; the habits, ‘rules’, conventions and institutions that drive warmonger nations to war and cause peace loving nations to wage peace; then install new national and international structures, systems, procedures, legislation and safeguards in Parliaments and Governments to ensure that no nation state ever again breaches international law, reneges on treaties, wages war, uses armed force or harms human beings.

Note. At the height of the Vietnam anti-war movement in the US, over 75,000 America citizens were refusing to pay their taxes in protest against the war.
