Troops Out Message to Cameron's Tories

'David Cameron here us say! Afghan war no way!' was the shout as Stop the War in Manchester marched round the Tory Party conference which opened in Manchester last week.

'Every Tory leader has been a keen supporter of the 'war on terror' over the last eight years. The Tories want even more British troops sent to Afghanistan, even bigger attacks on our civil liberties, and a greater demonisation of the Muslim community. This protest today is a warning to Cameron and his 'Eton rifles' cabinet. If his party is elected next year and the British soldiers are still in Afghanistan, then he will become the target of the Stop the War protests just like Blair and Brown have faced,' said Mark Krantz speaking at a rally outside the conference centre.

MEET BY THE WAR MEMORIAL

As the Conservatives meet in Manchester for their annual conference, Greater
Manchester Stop the War Coalition has organised a march round the Tory
conference at GMEX, followed by a rally in the Peace Gardens. We demand Troops Out of Afghanistan!

Tory leader David Cameron declared Afghanistan would be his 'top priority' should he win the election next year. He pledged he would send 'more British troops'. According to the Sun Newspaper 'one of his top priorities in government would be 'winning the Afghanistan war.'

Meanwhile the US generals in charge of the war in Afghanistan have warned that even with more troops it may 'not be possible to win' in Afghanistan. The top generals' plan to further escalate troop numbers in Afghanistan would lead to even more deaths of soldiers, and of Afghan people.

'More equipment' to better fight the war in Afghanistan is a demand taken up by the Tories and the Sun Newspaper, who claim to back the soldiers. But there is no escaping the main reason that 214 British soldiers have been klilled in Afghanistan - it is because they are there as part of an occupying force, and the Afghans do not want to be occupied.

Real help is needed for the soldiers. They need the special military hospitals that were closed, they need help with health and housing issues, their families too need help and support. These demands have been taken up by military families themselves because once they are back home they are too often abandoned.

Best support for the British military and their families would be to bring all the soldiers home from Afghanistan.

If the Tories win the next election, they will make the decisions in Parliament over the war. The Tories have been enthusiastic supporters of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and elsewhere. As they meet in Manchester for their annual conference, Greater Manchester Stop the War Coalition have organised a rally followed by a march round the Tory conference at GMEX

Assemble 1pm The Peace Gardens St Peter's Square. Manchester. M2 3DF.
