The biggest terrorist in the world - George W Bush has been beaten!

Beaten in a poll of the American people. Beaten by black and white people. By Hispanic people, by the young and the vibrant, all full of hope for change. 'It has been a long time coming ... but a change is gonna come'.

Obama was the candidate who voted against the war. McCain was the soldier who promised to fight for 100 years in Iraq. The peace candidate won. From Chicago to Florida, from Virginia to Salford they were dancing. (My sister says they really were dancing in her office, people she works with are from Kenya).

Racism in the country of lynchings, racism in the country of Jim Crow, racism has been rejected by the majority of Americans. This matters. 'White skin cannot be free while black skin is branded'. If they cannot divide us, then our fight back can only be strengthened, our side more confident.

The new generation in America now live in a world where in the heads of millions 'the chains of racism have come off'. Obama won the majority support in the country. What a nightmare for every racist, gun totting bigot in the land.

A new struggle is opening up in America. The struggle over what will be the real gains now that Obama is president.

Such struggles have pushed presidents before. The civil rights movement of the sixties forced Johnson to make concessions, Roosevelt in the 1930's faced strikes and protests forcing him to 'do something' with the New Deal. If they can be pushed, then Obama who promised change can be pushed too.

He can be made to into doing more of the the right thing - stopping the evictions, the bail outs of the bankers, creating a health care system that works, cutting war spending and more.

Will there be a 'spreading the wealth around a bit more'. Or will the old bankers, the war mongers and the billionaires get away with pulling him into maintaining their agenda. I know, they already have him surrounded.

But millions want real change. That is what they voted for. The system of war and privatisation has been rejected across the globe. The neo con 'full spectrum dominace' nightmare has been seen to have failed and been rejected across America.

The 'other super power' - the movement made up of the individual actions of millions of people - will be the real deciders in what happens next. The Obama victory should be celebrated as a step forwards for us all.
